“I see the steps going up to the top of the wall.” Emmett pushed open his door.

“Stop!” Lani shouted again.

Sailor let out groan. “Don’t tell me Nebula’s here, too!”

“I haven’t seen anyone, but it wouldn’t surprise me,” said Lani. “No, I was thinking about something else. Cruz said Nebula always seems to know what he does before he does it. It’s true. They had to have known where and when we were arriving tonight to stop Professor Coronado. And obviously they know what hotel we booked . . .”

“Obviously,” sighed Cruz.

“I’ll bet they know when we’re due at the Terra-Cotta Army museum,” said Lani. “It seems to me the only way we’re ever going to outwit Nebula is to—”

“Do the opposite of what they expect,” said Emmett. He shut his door.

Lani was twirling her silver lock of hair. “If Nebula thinks we’re going to be at the Terra-Cotta Army museum tomorrow afternoon, then we need to—”

“Go tonight,” decided Cruz.

“Tonight?” Sailor’s head appeared around the side of the seat. “But it’s closed.”

“We’ll get in,” vowed Emmett, his emoto-glasses shooting off their own yellow, green, and purple fireworks. He reached into the backpack on his lap for his tablet. “Lani?”

She was pulling out her computer, too. “Send me the schematics.”

Sailor directed the Auto Auto to take them to the museum.

“The museum is currently closed,” said the computer. “It will reopen tomorrow at—”

“We know,” she said. “Take us there anyway.”

The computer confirmed the destination was 27 miles from their present location and calculated they would arrive in 52 minutes. The car signaled left, and they crawled into traffic once again. There was nothing to do now but wait. Leaning back, Cruz exhaled. They were taking a huge risk going on their own.

If Emmett and Lani couldn’t disable the museum’s security system . . .

If Nebula found out what they were up to . . .

If Aunt Marisol needed their help . . .

Cruz’s tablet was ringing. When he saw who was calling, he fumbled the device, nearly losing it in the crack between his seat and the door. “Aunt Marisol? What happened? Where are you? Are you all right?”

“I’m okay, everything’s okay,” she soothed. “I’m not in jail. Still stuck at the airport.” Cruz put her on speaker. “The good news is that it’s a case of mistaken identity.”

Sailor popped around the seat to give him a big nod.

“The bad news is it probably won’t get straightened out until morning,” continued Aunt Marisol. “I have a bed for the night—well, a comfortable lounge chair anyway. I’ll get to the hotel as soon as I can. Fortunately, we don’t have to be at the museum tomorrow until a few minutes before they close.”

“Uh . . . yeah . . . r-right,” stammered Cruz.

“How about you guys?” asked his aunt. “Everyone all right? You found the hotel okay?”

“We’re fine. It’s you we’re worried about.”

“No need. I’m warm and dry. We’ll get it sorted out, hon. Get some rest. Love you.”

“Good night, Tía. Love you, too.”

The snow-cone car was slowing.
